Grades of Due south or U

In the following courses, the instructor may elect to give a form of S (Satisfactory) or U (Unsatisfactory) in lieu of letter of the alphabet grades: Trial Advocacy; Appellate Advocacy; Lawyering Skills; Advanced Legal Writing; and seminars in which the enrollment is less than xx students and the principal ground for the grade is a paper or course presentation.

Grades of South or U must exist given in lieu of letter of the alphabet grades for Police force Periodical, Moot Court, Directed Reading and Directed Enquiry.  Clinical courses are graded on the basis of S+, South, S-, and U. S+ can be awarded to no more 15% of the students in each clinical programme. Grades of Southward, South+, South- and U are not taken into account in computing a student's GPA.

For information on grading systems prior to 2005, contact the Constabulary School Registrar at registrar@police force.wisc.edu.

COVID-19 Disruption Policy

The Police School adopted a comprehensive laissez passer-fail policy for the Spring 2020 semester due to the COVID-nineteen disruption. Under the policy, most courses which would accept had regular letter grades but for the disruption used the following grades instead: Satisfactory-Disruption ("SD") or Unsatisfactory-Disruption ("UD"). Note: Trusts & Estates I from Spring 2020 was excluded from the policy, because the course concluded prior to COVID-xix disrupting campus operations.

Standing

The Law School does not make available students' class rank (except to the ten rising 3Ls with the highest GPAs, to assist them in seeking highly competitive judicial clerkships and fellowships). Instead, nosotros provide tables relating grade averages to approximate position in the class. Because the distribution of student grade averages has proven to be very consistent from year to year, the tables are cumulative summaries of the average grades for the previous 3 bookish years. The tables are re-calculated each semester as before long as all of the data for the about recent semester is available. See the table below.

The post-obit table was produced on January 21, 2022, with data from all semesters beginning with Jump 2019 and catastrophe with the Autumn 2021 semester. The columns are divided based on total credits completed, non simply on alphabetic character-graded credits.

Equally of January 2017, the Police Schoolhouse publishes rankings tables to the 50% point and higher up, but not below that point. If you are a student who has any question concerning how to limited your form rank in any application materials, please contact the Office of Career and Professional person Development.
